Well, I was actually not spending money on my helis for a while. I guess that’s over now. Maybe my bird just *knew* it was payday…
Back ups are very important. Maybe that’s a bit of an understatement. I have over 100GB is critical data. Five years of digital photos, both raw and edited. A year’s worth of digital video in MPEG2 format. My MP3s from my archived CD collection.
I have a lot of critical crap.
Had to happen sooner or later. After three good flights, my poor Shuttle has encountered the ground. I was doing some figure-8s and, at the 2/3 nose in position, I lost my brain-thumb interface. That, coupled with lack of positive pitch, led to a rapid descent followed by a sudden stop.
Anyone who has had the displeasure of sitting through one of my classes will be familiar with the following theme: For some reason, every time I have to speak or give a lesson in church, the topic is something that I have a hard time with. Today’s topic, The Sacrament, is no different.
A few months ago, I grabbed a TREX 450S Carbon. It’s a “v1.5 TREX” with upgraded components.

I’m a big fan of computer simulations. This is an oldie-but-goodie. It’s been updated a lot over the years to keep up with graphics, physics, and just to add new stuff.
If you ever wondered what flying the Space Shuttle is like, check it out:
ORBITER is a free flight simulator that goes beyond
the confines of Earth’s atmosphere. Launch the Space Shuttle from Kennedy
Space Center to deploy a satellite, rendezvous with the International Space
Station or take the futuristic
Delta-glider for a tour through the solar system - the choice is yours.
I’ll definitely be spending the weekend making runs to the ISS and back.

A few days ago, I found myself looking for some bling for my TREX 450. I sent a few messages back and forth with Scott from RC-Tek, and he convinced me to pick up a full kit from him. He informed me that it represented some of his older stock, but assured me that the heli was fully upgradeable to the latest model. The price was great and, seeing as how Scott responded quickly to all my questions (usually within 10 minutes or so), I just couldn’t pass it up.
I made the purchase via PayPal and, within an hour, had a shipping confirmation from Scott.
One problem with helis is telling where they are and which way they are pointing. To that end, I hooked up my newest canopy with the following paint job. Continue reading »
One of the hardest things to do on a heli is to learn to hover. Helis are, by nature, unstable. Some have described it as balancing a marble on a large mirror. Or standing on a basketball. I think the point you should be taking away from this is that it’s FRICKIN HARD to hover a helicopter.
I was at the store today picking up some parts and I saw this cute, little carbon fiber and cloth airplane. It was cute and cheap, so I figured I’d go for it.
